About this experience
Board a wooden long-tail boat in Luang Prabang and travel up the Mekong past forested hills, sandbanks and fishing villages. Stop at Ban Xang Hai, a village known for rice whisky, and a weaving village before reaching the Pak Ou caves.
Carved into the limestone cliffs where the Nam Ou meets the Mekong, the two caves hold thousands of Buddha images left by pilgrims over centuries. On the way back, the boat drifts downstream as the sun sets over the river — with a cold Beerlao or fresh juice in hand.
Groups are kept small and the pace relaxed, with time for photos and questions. A private version is available on request — just mention it in your enquiry, together with any dietary needs or mobility requirements.
