Ubud jungle villas, cliff-top sunsets and island days on Nusa Penida. How to plan a Bali honeymoon from Europe — where to stay, when to go and a ten-day itinerary.
Quick answer: For a Bali honeymoon, split your stay between Ubud (jungle villas, rice terraces, temples) and the south coast — Uluwatu for cliff-top sunsets or Nusa Dua for calm beaches. Allow at least 10 nights, travel between April and October for dry weather, and book a private pool villa.
Bali has been a favourite honeymoon destination for European couples for decades, and it is easy to see why. Where else can you wake up in a private pool villa above a jungle gorge, spend the afternoon in a temple ceremony and watch the sun set from a cliff over the Indian Ocean — all on the same day, and at a fraction of what a similar stay would cost in the Maldives or the Seychelles?
Here is how we plan Bali honeymoons for our guests from Europe.
When is the best time for a Bali honeymoon?
Bali's dry season runs from April to October, with sunny days, low humidity and comfortable evenings — ideal for summer weddings in Europe. July and August are busiest because of European school holidays, so book villas early. April, May, June and September are our favourite months: great weather, fewer crowds and better rates. From November to March, it rains most afternoons, but mornings are often sunny and prices are lower.
Where to stay: choosing your Bali bases
Ubud — jungle romance
Ubud is Bali's cultural heart, surrounded by rice terraces and river valleys. Couples stay in villas with private pools overlooking the jungle, take yoga classes, visit temples and enjoy long spa treatments. It is not a beach area, but the atmosphere is magical.
Uluwatu — cliffs and sunsets
On the southern Bukit peninsula, Uluwatu offers some of the most spectacular cliff-top resorts in Asia, with infinity pools above the ocean. Sunsets are unforgettable, and the Kecak fire dance at Uluwatu Temple is a must.
Seminyak — style and dining
For couples who want boutiques, beach clubs and excellent restaurants, Seminyak is lively and stylish. It is busier than the other areas.
Nusa Dua — calm beaches and luxury resorts
Nusa Dua has calm, clear water and large luxury resorts. Ideal for a relaxing final week.

Extending your honeymoon
- Gili Islands or Lombok: quieter beaches and snorkelling with turtles.
- Vietnam first, then Bali: adventure followed by rest — see our Vietnam vs Bali comparison.
- Singapore stopover: two nights on the way home to break up the long flight.
Practical tips for European couples
- There are no direct flights from Europe; choose a connection via the Gulf, Istanbul or Singapore and consider premium economy.
- Most Europeans buy a Visa on Arrival or e-VoA, and visitors also pay the Bali tourist levy. Check current requirements before travelling.
- Tell hotels you are on honeymoon — many add flower decoration, a cake or an upgrade.
- Dress modestly at temples: shoulders covered and a sarong (usually provided).
- Respect offerings on the ground and do not step on them.
- Rent a private driver rather than a scooter — traffic is chaotic and insurance often excludes scooter accidents.
How much does a Bali honeymoon cost?
For ten nights with a private pool villa in Ubud and a 5-star resort in the south, private transfers, a few excursions and some special dinners, budget roughly €2,000–3,500 per person excluding international flights. Ultra-luxury villas can cost much more; good boutique villas much less.
Choosing the right honeymoon villa
Bali's villas are one of its greatest attractions, but quality and location vary greatly. These are the questions we ask before recommending one:
- Is the pool truly private? Some "private pool villas" share walls or views with neighbours.
- What is the view? Jungle, rice fields, river valley or ocean — each creates a different atmosphere.
- How far is it from restaurants? Secluded villas are romantic but may require a car for every meal.
- Is there in-villa dining and butler service? Perfect for private dinners.
- How many steps? Ubud villas built into valleys can involve many stairs.
Romantic restaurants and experiences
Bali has a superb dining scene, from Ubud's farm-to-table restaurants to cliff-top dining in Uluwatu and seafood barbecues on the sand at Jimbaran Bay. We recommend booking at least one special dinner in advance — ideally a tasting menu showcasing Indonesian ingredients — and keeping one evening for a private candlelit dinner in your villa. For something different, consider a sunset cruise, a helicopter flight over the island or a private photoshoot with a local photographer.
Wedding vow renewal and blessing ceremonies
Many European couples who married at home choose a symbolic Balinese blessing ceremony during their honeymoon. A local priest leads a short ritual with offerings, flowers and holy water, often in a temple, garden or on a beach. These ceremonies are not legally binding, which makes them simple to organise, and they create a beautiful memory. We can arrange the priest, decoration, traditional attire, music and photographer.
Wellness and spa for two
Bali is one of the world's great spa destinations. Traditional Balinese massage uses long strokes, acupressure and aromatic oils; a boreh scrub uses warming spices such as ginger, cloves and cinnamon; and the famous flower bath is pure indulgence. Ubud also offers yoga classes for all levels, sound healing sessions and meditation. Book a half-day couples' ritual at least once — it is the perfect way to recover from the long flight.
Honeymoon in the rainy season?
Many European weddings take place in May, June or September, which is perfect for Bali's dry season. If you marry in winter and travel between November and March, Bali is still possible: rain usually falls in heavy afternoon showers, the landscape is lush and prices are lower. Alternatively, consider a Vietnam honeymoon with Hoi An and Phu Quoc, which is at its best from December to April.
Frequently asked questions
Is Bali good for a honeymoon?
Yes — it is one of the best honeymoon destinations in the world, thanks to its villas, culture, landscapes and value.
How many days do we need?
At least ten nights. Two weeks lets you add the Gili Islands or Lombok.
Ubud or beach first?
We recommend Ubud first, to recover from the flight in nature, and the beach last, to finish relaxed.
Do Balinese hotels offer honeymoon perks?
Many do — flower decorations, a cake, a bottle of sparkling wine or an upgrade. Let your hotel know you are on honeymoon when you book.
Can we have a blessing ceremony in Bali?
Yes. A symbolic Balinese blessing can be arranged at a temple, garden or beach, with a priest, offerings and a photographer.
